Apple's Vision lineup explores new frontiers in mixed reality technology. Plans include a more affordable headset, next-gen Vision Pro, and smart glasses without displays. Despite challenges, Apple remains committed to advancing its mixed reality lineup.

Apple's Vision group continues to develop new products following the launch of Apple Vision Pro earlier this year. According to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, the company is working on three potential devices:

The more affordable Vision headset might hit the market as soon as next year, possibly expanding the product line's appeal. However, how Apple plans to cut costs is still a mystery. Gurman doubts that a cheaper model will greatly enhance the popularity of Apple's mixed reality gadgets.

Simultaneously, Apple is working on a second-generation Vision Pro, though its release date remains uncertain. The company faces challenges in making mixed reality technology more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.

Beyond headsets, Apple's Vision group is testing smart glasses akin to Meta's Ray-Ban partnership. These glasses would not have displays but might include features like photo and video capture, voice assistant functionality, and AI-driven contextual information.

The creation of true augmented reality glasses has been delayed due to technical challenges. Creating lightweight spectacles with meaningful AR capabilities without compromising battery life or requiring a wired connection to other devices remains a significant challenge.

Despite slower-than-expected sales of the Vision Pro, Apple appears committed to advancing its mixed reality product lineup. The company aims to refine its offerings and potentially capture a larger market share in the emerging wearable technology sector.

As Apple's plans continue to evolve, official announcements will provide clearer insights into the future of its mixed-reality devices. Until then, the tech industry and consumers alike will watch closely for advancements in this rapidly developing field.
