Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses coming soon with AI
The "Ray-Ban Meta" smart glasses series is getting exciting AI functions from the maker of Facebook. Meta recently announced on Instagram that select users in the USA can activate "Hey Meta", a virtual assistant that uses the glasses' cameras and microphones to evaluate and comment on objects in the wearer's field of vision.
Mark Zuckerberg demonstrates the AI functions of the Ray-Ban Meta
On Instagram, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shows the new AI functions of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which are still in early access. "Starting to test multimodal AI that can both see and hear on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses," writes Zuckerberg on the Instagram reel. In the video, the Meta CEO says "Hey Meta" to recommend a pair of trousers to go with a striped shirt. The AI voice then describes what it sees and picks out "dark wash jeans or plain pants."
Meta's Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Andrew Bosworth, also announced on Instagram that the testing phase of Meta AI in the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses would launch via an opt-in early access program in the US. "We’re also rolling out the ability to ask Meta AI real-time information to all Ray-Ban Meta glasses customers in the US, powered in part by Bing," Bosworth adds.
