Apple is reportedly mulling the expansion of its wearables range with rivals for devices such as the Oura Ring - not to mention the Meta/Ray-Ban glasses - then again, they may be a long way off compared to others such as next-gen AirPods. To that end, the first-gen Ring from the Cupertino giant might lag significantly behind a Galaxy Ring rumored to make an imminent debut.

The latest word on the future of wearables at Apple might come as next to no surprise to some, with smart rings in particular increasingly regarded as the next big thing in consumer-grade health-tracking (blood glucose, blood pressure and heart-rate monitoring included).

Accordingly, Oura and Ultrahuman might not thank the OEM for it one day, but Apple is still reportedly mulling the launch of its first-gen smart ring in order to attract fans that are interested in those features, yet are not Watch people.

In addition, that kind of first-party accessory could also conceivably fit into the Apple ecosystem in other ways, from the latest way to unlock an iPhone to an extra form of Vision Pro control.

On that note, Mark Gurman posits that this oneday product might be called the "iRing", although something like the Apple Ring is equally likely.

The Bloomberg correspondent also now indicates that the OEM is considering getting into the smart glasses game - again, as a frankly more intuitive and familiar alternative to both AirPods and an iPad than the whole Vision Pro put together, it is amazing that the company has not gone farther down this road already.

Indeed, both the Apple "Glasses" and "Ring" reportedly languish at extremely early stages of development at the moment, with concerns such as battery life holding them back.

Nevertheless, those possibilities are apparently less outlandish than some other concepts being pitched in Cupertino right now, as apparently some people within the company would prefer it make AirPods with cameras instead.

In any case, both "hypothetical" first-gen wearables may, like the OEM's first-gen foldable, be way behind the curve by the time they make it to market - especially as Samsung's inaugural Galaxy Ring is now believed to make a debut - or an in-booth preview, at least - in Barcelona during the MWC 2024 event that is now underway.
