Apple ramps up work on its first foldable device slated for a 2025 launch, but it reportedly won't be an iPhone

Described as a notable departure from the standard iPhone form factor, while resembling that of a laptop or a tablet, this device has been in development within Apple for the past half-decade. As design efforts near completion, the focus is now shifting towards plans for mass production.

This design decision seems rational, as a foldable iPad-like device capable of transitioning into an iPhone-sized device could effectively leverage the expanded screen real estate and provide for much better portability and wider use cases, and will likely operate on a flavour of iPadOS.
