Movano Health is shipping the women-focused Evie smart ring to iOS users this January

This sort of delay is de rigueur for any novel health tech gadget, thanks to the FDA. Jumping through the hoops of rigorous testing and documentation can take years and often dooms the majority of would-be medical gadgets to the status of vaporware.

Consumer gadgets like the Garmin Venu 2 Plus or Withings ScanWatch that manage to acquire the highly coveted FDA clearance are just a small fraction of the innovative health tech devices shown at CES each year. However, Movano Health is determined to make the Evie Ring join this exclusive club.

So far, the Evie ring has successfully passed the FDA's requirements at clinical trials. Its SpO₂ sensors for blood oxygen showed a 2% margin of error (compared to the FDA guidelines of 3.5%) and pulse readings were delivered with medical-grade accuracy.

There are still concerns to be addressed, but Movano remains convinced that the Evie smart ring will ship this year, with all its features intact. 

From the open-gap form factor to the medical-grade sensors that are sensitive to the vital signs on women's fingers, the Evie smart ring emphasizes its women-first design philosophy. The custom AI engine in the app tracks data about the mood, activity level and menstrual health of the user and correlates the information with studies that take these women-specific factors into consideration. 

Evie is coming to Android in Q2 of this year, but for now, it only supports

iOS devices. The ring is available to preorder on the website for $269 and does not require a subscription. It comes in three color options(silver, gold and rose gold) and eight sizes – sizes 5 through 12. An optional sizing kit is also available for customers who don't know their size.
