After four years without a trace, Samsung Ballie graces the stage once again in a video demonstration ahead of CES 2024. The rolling robot is now a projector, smart home assistant and a hub for other connected devices.

Ballie, Samsung's AI-powered home companion robot, made a virtual appearance at a press conference prior to CES this year with a new upgrade that allows it to serve as a projector. Shown through a video exhibit, Ballie projected photos and videos to surfaces while following someone around.

Samsung's rolling robot still looks the same as the first time it rolled on stage at CES 2020. Ballie is still a yellow ball with a single rectangular slit that serves as a visor. The video shows Ballie as a mobile smart home hub that controls connected devices such as smart lights, air conditioning or even automated pet feeders (like this one from PetKit)

Ballie even communicates via text (likely in a companion app). Its AI features also include setting the mood during workouts or other activities via music suggestions and even preset ambient lighting.

In the video and accompanying press release, Samsung Ballie is shown to project images at an optimal surface (floor, walls and ceilings) depending on its position, lighting conditions and the viewing angle. The promotional video ends with Ballie projecting a starry night sky to the bedroom ceiling.

Except for the rounded form factor and projection tricks, Samsung Ballie has the same premise as the LG smart AI Agent (which actually showed up at CES). Both devices are mobile smart home hubs in concept/prototype stage and they're both powered by AI. Neither device has even a tentative release date or any mention of a possible price.
