Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Ultra promos highlight camera features. 7 years of updates and possible Galaxy AI subscriptions on the cards
New Samsung's Galaxy S24 leaks have surfaced this weekend, just a few days before the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17, 2024. According to Android Headlines sources, Samsung is likely to increase the update support for the new Galaxy flagships to 7 years in total. As of now, we cannot be sure yet, but the seven years sound plausible after Google announced a similar timeframe for their Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro (available here at Amazon) camera flagships last year.
Samsung copies from Google
Samsung has apparently copied a lot from Google this year. Pixel 8 users are already familiar with all the Generative AI features, which Samsung seems to promote under the tagline "Galaxy AI". The first promo in the gallery down below shows how the Magic Editor clone will look like on Samsung phones. Moving, enlarging or changing objects in photos will become more common on Galaxy S24 and Co. thanks to Galaxy AI. The two render images of Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra above also confirm the information about the camera hardware that has been leaked many times before already.
Paid subscription for AI features?
Quite alarming are the references to possible subscription models for Galaxy AI features. According to the current leak, the new AI functions on supported Galaxy phones will be free of charge until at least 2025, after which some of the functions could become chargeable in one way or another. Unfortunately, details are not yet available. Since Google does not (yet) charge extra for its AI features, such plans are unlikely to be popular with Samsung Galaxy S24 buyers.
Update 1: More promos confirm new features
Now Evan Blass has also contributed a few official promo images. Although they are not in particularly high resolution, they provide confirmation of other new features, such as circling objects in an image to search for them, real-time translation of calls, better zoom in low light, a brighter display or help from Galaxy AI in Samsung Notes. Interestingly, Samsung is advertising Super Fast Charging 2.0, although according to the recently leaked data sheet, a maximum of 45 or 25 watts is supported.
Update 2: Galaxy S24 Ultra Unboxing Photos
We exchanged the promos above with better quality versions. In addition, this X-account has recently published the two unboxing photos of the Galaxy S24 Ultra in Titanium Grey and was quickly deleted a few hours later.
