Smart lock company Lockly exhibited their latest product at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The Lockly Visage is a $349 Matter-enabled deadbolt replacement that scans your face to unlock your door.
Facial recognition is nothing new – connected video doorbells and security cameras use it all the time – but the Visage is the first smart lock to use the technology to make unlocking completely hands-free. The device has two 2MP infrared sensors that can detect a face within 2.6 feet of the door. Unlocking takes less than 1.5 seconds and can work for up to 100 faces stored in the Visage.
Like the Lockly Vision Elite ($499.99 on Amazon), the Visage has a fingerprint scanner and a digital keypad as well as regular physical keys as alternative unlocking options. In addition the Visage allows RFID cards to grant access.
Lockly says its smart lock is compatible with Matter, but the official certification is still pending. However the Visage is expected to ship this summer with full support for Apple HomeKit, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
Lockly is also looking to bring its existing products into the smart home of the future with its Matter Link Hub. The new hub is backwards compatible with older Lockly smart locks and replaces any existing hubs from the company – rendering the likes of the Lockly Secure Link obsolete.
Lockly promises that even gadgets without prior HomeKit support (such as the Access Touch) will behave like Matter-enabled devices thanks to the Matter Link Hub, which is expected to retail for $79.99.
