Ultion's award-winning Nuki Plus smart lock has now added Matter support, bringing added interoperability & security to one of the most secure locks on the market. However, owners of previous models will have to completely replace their smart locks for the Matter edition since there is no software update offered.

Ultion Nuki Plus is the brainchild of two smart home security powerhouses: Ultion, the award-winning British lockmaker and Nuki, manufacturer of Nuki Smart Lock and Smart Lock Pro.

Once you get past the premium price (discounted to £319), Ultion Nuki Plus is a remarkable feat of precision engineering that confidently secures any door while providing users with a vast selection of access options. There was one caveat though: until the past week, the smart lock only supported remote control via HomeKit. But with the latest upgrade, Ultion Nuki Plus is now interoperable with every major smart home platform that works with Matter.

Matter compatibility implies that the lock is now easier to setup and integrate with a smart home ecosystem. To protect your home from malicious network operators, the smart lock backs up its AES encryption with techniques used in standard banking cryptography. Like the original Nuki Plus, the lock is completely self-contained, so it does not require a bridge or hub for connectivity.

The new model is aptly dubbed Ultion Nuki Plus Matter edition, but Matter support is not the only upgrade offered here.

For enhanced security, Ultion Nuki Plus includes a new “three-star Euro cylinder lock” involving an in-built Lockdown Mode. This mechanism shuts down the lock whenever it detects an intruder trying to brute-force their way in. Ultion is offering a unique £2000 security guarantee that its lock will hold out against any burglars attempting to snap the Police Preferred Lock.

Due to these hardware upgrades, owners of previous models of Ultion Nuki smart locks will have to physically swap out the old lock for the Matter edition, which is available for pre-order on Ultion's website for £379. If you already own a Nuki or Nuki Plus, you may be eligible for a discount. Any existing fingerprint keypads or Bluetooth key fobs will still work with the Matter edition, so you wouldn't need to buy new accessories.

If you're looking for something under £300, you can buy the 4th-generation Nuki Plus Smart Lock Pro which supports Matter-over-Wifi for remote access with your smart phone.
