SwitchBot Lock can transform regular locks into smart locks with NFC reader
The SwitchBot Lock has been unveiled, a gadget that turns regular locks into smart locks. The device is compatible with many locks, such as the Kwikset Cylinder Deadbolt or Baldwin Single Cylinder. You can open the lock remotely via Bluetooth with your smartphone, Apple Watch or using a SwitchBot NFC tag.
Alternatively, you can control the gadget with voice commands via Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Plus, the smart lock is compatible with Samsung SmartThings; it’s worth noting that you will need a SwitchBot Hub Mini to enable these third-party systems. A weatherproof smart KeyPad and KeyPad Touch, the which includes a fingerprint scanner, are optional accessories that provide more ways to unlock your door.
You can manually operate the lock in emergencies and even use your old key. The gadget has an auto-locking feature and is powered by two CR123A 3V batteries, which provide around six months of battery life. The company claims that the device is easy to install via a sticker on the back of the gadget.
The SwitchBot lock will be available for US$99.99 on Amazon from June 20th. The accompanying KeyPad and KeyPad Touch will retail for US$29.99 and US$59.99, respectively. You can sign-up here to receive a limited early bird discount on the device and launch updates.
