Philips Hue app gains new unannounced feature for customized lighting
Signify has released a new tool for the Philips Hue app. The color control feature arrived without fanfare but was spotted by a reader of Hueblog.com. It appears that this option was rolled out as part of app update version 5.10.0, which arrived earlier this month.
The new Philips Hue app feature is a third color wheel dedicated to smart lighting scenes. Previously, there were two color selectors: one was a color picker, and the controlled the color temperature of white lighting. The new wheel allows you to customize your chosen scene by adjusting the shades from a limited range of tones. This means you can personalize the lighting while achieving the same look and feel.
Also included in app version 5.10.0 was an option to switch off Secure device notifications, triggered when a smart camera or sensor detects motion. Plus, Philips Hue users were given a range of Romantic lighting scenes in a dedicated category in a nod to Valentine’s Day. It remains unclear why Signify did not include details of the new scene color wheel in its changelog notes for the latest update. If you want to try out the feature, you can download the most recent version of the Philips Hue app for iOS and Android devices from the relevant stores.
