SwitchBot Smart Lock now Matter compatible via firmware update
The SwitchBot Smart Lock is now Matter compatible thanks to new firmware. The company announced the update via its Twitter account in Japan, noting that the gadget can now be controlled via Apple HomeKit when used with the SwitchBot Hub 2; the device should also be compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
SwitchBot Smart Lock firmware version 6.5 is now available, alongside Hub 2 firmware version 1.0-0.8, and the iOS app has been updated to V7.3. You can update the lock’s firmware via the SwitchBot app, checking the “All Devices” screen for an update arrow; once you have selected your device, you can access settings by tapping the gear icon and selecting “Firmware & Battery” to find the update.
The SwitchBot Smart Lock launched last year, providing seven ways to unlock your door, including voice commands, Bluetooth, NFC, Apple Watch and a physical key. Optional Keypad and Keypad Touch accessories allow you to unlock your door with a passcode or fingerprint. The gadget is installed over your existing lock, compatible with models like Kwikset Cylinder Deadbolt or Baldwin Single Cylinder. The battery-powered gadget can last for up to six months, and you can choose to receive app notifications when the door is unlocked. The SwitchBot Smart Lock is currently discounted for Amazon Prime Day, selling with 25% off at US$97.49; the gadget retails for US$129.99.
