Xiaomi has announced the Home Smart Screen Pro 8, a new smart monitor that sits between 6-inch and 10-inch models. As its name suggests, the Home Smart Screen Pro 8 has an 8-inch touchscreen display, which operates natively at 1,280 x 800 pixels. According to Xiaomi, the display sits within a 201.5 x 197.8 x 43.7 mm housing that weighs 925 g.
While that seems rather large for a device with an 8-inch display, Xiaomi has installed a pair of speakers placed beneath the display behind a fine mesh. Additionally, the company has included a 2 MP front-facing camera for making video calls, among other uses. Moreover, the Home Smart Screen Pro 8 has a 7,500 mAh battery that gives it an added element of portability that its 6-inch and 10-inch siblings lack.
Elsewhere, the smart monitor has a chipset with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores that Xiaomi complements with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of flash storage. Xiaomi adds that the device also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz/5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as IR remote control input. Furthermore, the Home Smart Screen Pro 8 can integrate within Bluetooth mesh networks to communicate with other devices. The Home Smart Screen Pro 8 is available in China for CNY 749 (~US$104) and has a CNY 799 (~US$111) MSRP. Xiaomi has not outlined a global release yet, but more details can be found on Xiaomi's website.
