MagyarNuki Smart Lock 4.0 with Matter: Nuki confirms launch for December
Nuki demonstrated a prototype of a smart lock with Matter support in October 2022, and since then the manufacturer has overcome at least one major hurdle with Matter 1.2. For the new Matter standard has been expanded to include a feature that takes door handles into account, not least thanks to the efforts of the Austrian smart lock specialist.
So instead of just being able to lock and unlock door locks, as is usual with US doors, Matter 1.2 allows the door to be unlocked from the inside without pulling the latch, which prevents an entrance door from being opened from outside (even if unlocked from the inside). However, since Matter 1.2 was only announced at the end of October, the deadline for the originally planned launch of the first Nuki Smart Lock (with support for the universal smart home standard) is looming.
Nuki has nevertheless reiterated its intention to stick to this schedule in a comment under the the YouTube video in which the prototype was demonstrated: "As you might know, we presented our first prototype of a Smart Lock with Matter-support in 2022. We also announced that we are planning to launch the first Matter-enabled devices in the second half of 2023. We are known for keeping our promises."
Nuki is yet to reveal further details about the new product, but 2023 will be over in less than eight weeks, so it shouldn't be long before the supposed Nuki Smart Lock 4.0 is unveiled. Thanks to Thread, this may well offer a longer battery life, while compatibility with Matter hubs should make the purchase of a dedicated Nuki hub unnecessary.
