BenQ unveils magnetic LaptopBar with auto-dimming and ambient light
LED light bars mounted on monitors have long been part of the basic equipment of many workstations, and BenQ is now offering a similar light for laptops in the LaptopBar. The setup is very simple - the base unit attaches magnetically to the back of the screen, with BenQ supplying a magnetic sticker so that this can function on virtually any laptop.
The LED light bar can also be magnetically attached to the base and a hinge allows the direction of the light to be adjusted. The LED illuminates the laptop's keyboard and its immediate surroundings with a maximum of 700 nits, which is intended to reduce differences in brightness between the notebook's display and its surroundings in order to protect the eyes. For this reason, the light also shines backwards to brighten the room a little.

Depending on the orientation of the LaptopBar, users can adjust how large the illuminated area is. Thanks to the integrated motion sensor, the LED can be switched on and off using gesture control, while auto-dimming is designed to remember the selected settings and automatically adjust the brightness to the ambient light, taking the user's preferences into account. The color temperature can be adjusted from 2,700 to 5,700 Kelvin from warm white to cool white. The integrated rechargeable battery promises a runtime of 160 minutes at 50% brightness and is charged via USB-C.
