RCA Evolution Premium: New gaming monitor with 240 Hz, KVM switch and cable management is vivid
There is certainly no shortage of gaming monitors on the market at present, some of which are quite affordable. With the Evolution Premium, RCA now has a new display on offer, although availability is currently limited to the USA. There, the monitor is offered at a price of US$429.
This is a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, although RCA has not curved the display this time. At a brightness of 300 cd/m², the IPS panel definitely meets the standard. The maximum refresh rate is 240 Hz and the minimum response time just one millisecond. This is also the gray-to-gray response time, although this is only achievable via overclocking.
Reproduction of the DCI-P3 color space is given as 95 percent and RCA also advertises HDR-10 compatibility, but this is generally not a sign of quality for a particularly high-contrast display. Speakers are installed, but as usual, users shouldn't expect particularly an immersive sound experience here.
RGB lighting, which is quite common for gaming monitors, is integrated and users can also have a crosshair overlay displayed. The monitor also accepts image input via HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. Streaming via USB-C is also possible, whereby the connected notebook or mini PC can be supplied with 90 watts. A KVM switch is installed, which allows devices connected to the two USB ports to be switched together with the image source. The integrated cable management is designed to keep things tidy on or behind the desk.
