Philips has presented the 49B2U5900CH, an ultra-wide monitor designed for office use. According to the company, it has built the 49B2U5900CH around a 48.8-inch VA panel that resolves at 5,120 x 1,440 pixels with a 32:9 aspect ratio. Thus, Philips' new monitor is slightly larger than the UltraGear 45GR65DC and UltraGear 45GR75DC that LG unveiled yesterday.
In essence, the Philips 49B2U5900CH is equivalent to a pair of 27-inch monitors with 2,560 x 1,440 resolutions placed next to each other, albeit with a modest 1800R curvature. Philips promises 178-degree viewing angles too, as well as 450 nits peak brightness, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. Additionally, the 49B2U5900CH is said cover 97% and 119% of the NTSC and sRGB colour spaces, respectively.
Moreover, the monitor has a 75 Hz peak refresh rate, <2 Delta E deviations and 4 ms GtG response times. Separately, Philips has included a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection, and a USB Type-C port that can recharge a connected device at up to 100 W even with DisplayPort Alt Mode active. Also, the latter integrates with the monitor's Gigabit Ethernet connection, plus its second USB Type-C port and two USB Type-A ports.
Furthermore, Philips advertises the 49B2U5900CH as featuring a pair of 3 W stereo speakers, an adjustable stand and a 5 MP Windows Hello-compatible webcam. The Philips 49B2U5900CH retails for £949.99 in the UK and €1,199 in the Eurozone. Currently, Philips hopes to begin selling the monitor later this month. In the meantime, the company has posted full 49B2U5900CH specifications on its website.
