Ossia Cota Universal Adapter touted to bring wireless charging to (almost) any smartphone
Ossia has unveiled its latest advancement in "Real Wireless Power" as one that can bring its Cota technology to more pre-existing devices than ever before. It is rated to convert their USB-C ports into a receiver for instant "over the air" charging.
Ossia touts this new solution as the most sustainable as well as the most convenient type of power source around, as it does not require batteries or cables that might end up being discarded one day. Then again, it does require a Cota Hub be available within about 30 feet (~9 meters) of the device, although the connection is apparently line of sight-independent.
Accordingly, Ossia touts the Cota Universal Adapter (plus Hub) as the ideal power solution for edge or peripheral devices such as wireless speakers, smart home gadgets or IoT components. Then again, it might also be used for some smartphones and tablets, thanks to its "lightweight", 97 millimeter-long form factor.
Then again, Ossia has yet to confirm whether the Universal Adapter can support the power delivery requirements of some mobile devices. The OEM might do so during the gadget's upcoming CES 2024 showcase.
In the meantime, Cota Universal Adapter pre-orders have been declared open, although they are available through direct contact with Ossia's sales team only for now.
