OnePlus has now started selling its curious charging accessory, a week after debuting the device. As we discussed at the time, the company has designed a small liquid cooling radiator with a magnetic wireless charger attached on the other end. According to OnePlus, the wireless charging element can recharge an Apple iPhone at up to 7.5 W, with Android smartphones restricted to 5 W. Thus, it seems that OnePlus' latest accessory does not support the 15 W Qi wireless charging standard.
It is worth noting that OnePlus has designed the accessory with a 0.8-metre irreplaceable cable, reducing its versatility somewhat. Additionally, the liquid cooling element is said to be capable of reducing temperatures by up to 34 °C while operating at 24 dB under full load. Theoretically, the device is compatible with any device, but it will only recharge those that support wireless charging.
For example, OnePlus demonstrates attaching the accessory onto a laptop's, smartphone's or tablet's hot spot, typically above their chipsets. The company also sells magnetic stickers to expand compatibility, although cooling effectiveness will depend on how hot the back of a device gets. Currently, OnePlus sells the accessory in China for CNY 599 (~US$83); it remains to be seen whether it will bring the accessory to other markets, though.
