OnePlus India offers new warranty program for those affected by green line screen defect
OnePlus smartphones are often praised for their Fluid AMOLED displays. However, according to some Community users, their quality has not saved them from the dreaded "green line" defect over the last few generations. Then again, the OEM has now started to respond to the "issue" with the announcement of a new "lifetime screen warranty" for affected customers - albeit in only 1 of its major regions thus far.
Some smartphone owners in India can now avail of a complimentary screen replacement for their green line-cursed device - so long as they live somewhere with a OnePlus service center in the vicinity. Then again, if the smartphone in question has reached end-of-life (EOL) status, this may not be possible - however, there is an alternative option.
It consists of the release of new upgrade incentive (which may, again, only be available through OnePlus Exclusive Service Centers) that should allow a customer with the green line bug to buy a new smartphone from the OEM's webstore with a voucher worth up to INR 25,500 (~US$308).
There is a "bonus" INR 4,500 (~US$54) discount on top of that - but only if the voucher is used on the purchase of a new 10R. The upgrade only applies to those with defective units of the OnePlus 8 Pro, 8T, vanilla 9 and 9R only, leaving the 8, 9RT and 9 Pro out for some reason.
Nevertheless, the new program represents a potentially positive move on OnePlus' part, especially in terms of keeping customers loyal even in the event of a widespread issue with in-demand display types. The company has yet to respond to queries as to whether it will roll the same new warranty out to other markets or not.
