OnePlus Open branding officially teased for OnePlus's inaugural foldable
Reports weeks ago claimed OnePlus would brand its upcoming foldable smartphone as the "OnePlus Open". Those reports appear to have been right on the money, with OnePlus now teasing that earlier today.
"We OPEN when others FOLD," OnePlus posted on its official Twitter handle hours ago, all but confirming that its imminent foldable smartphone will eschew the word "Fold" in favor of being named the "OnePlus Open". While ultimately inconsequential, it does show OnePlus's willingness to take a unique path, at least branding-wise.
Sadly, though, current reports indicate the OnePlus Open will not be as unique as its name sounds, with the foldable reportedly set to be a global rebadge of the upcoming OPPO Find N3. While there'll likely be some differences between the phones as is typical with OPPO flagships and their OnePlus derivatives, the OnePlus Open is all but certain to draw strong inspiration from its BBK stablemate.
OnePlus appears to be beginning its marketing campaign for the OnePlus Open, with the company also sharing a short teaser video on Twitter yesterday. That typically indicates an imminent launch, and word on the grapevine claims the foldable will debut globally on August 29. That includes a US launch, but OnePlus, of course, has no plans to release the Open in Germany.
