Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 to launch in August as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 alternative with Leica quad-cameras
Samsung has inspired its competitors to speak on their future large foldable smartphones, following yesterday's release of the Galaxy Z Fold5. On the one hand, OnePlus tweeted the unsubtle statement 'We OPEN when others FOLD', with Open the name of its forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold5 competitor. On the other hand, Oppo also teased its next foldable, which it is expected to present later this year as the Find N3.
Subsequently, Xiaomi has begun teasing the MIX Fold 3, a follow-up to the exceedingly thin MIX Fold 2. For reference, the latter is 5.4 mm thick when opened and 11.2 mm when closed, undercutting the Galaxy Z Fold5 by over 10% in both instances. The MIX Fold 3 looks comparatively thin too, although Xiaomi appears to be focusing on the device's camera capabilities instead.
According to Xiaomi Founder and CEO Lei Jun, the MIX Fold 3 will feature four Leica-tuned rear-facing cameras, mirroring the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Jun adds that the former will debut Xiaomi's new micro OIS motors, as well as ultra-slim high refractive lenses and compact periscope modules. Unsurprisingly, Jun boasts that the MIX Fold 3 will deliver a 'top-notch imaging experience'. Xiaomi has confirmed that the MIX Fold 3 will debut next month. Unfortunately, the device is rumoured to be another Chinese exclusive, despite Lei Jun mentioning it on his global Twitter account.
