OnePlus Open set to be OnePlus's first foldable smartphone
By all means, OnePlus is late to the foldable market. The company looks to be the last of the major smartphone brands to launch a foldable smartphone, and it appears it will go in a different direction from the competition, at least branding-wise.
According to the typically reliable leaker, Max Jambor, OnePlus's inaugural foldable device is set to be branded as the OnePlus Open. Not the OnePlus Fold, or the OnePlus V Fold, or whatever product name has floated around the rumor mill in the past. It's an interesting product name, as it blatantly refuses to use the "Fold" term, unlike just about every other foldable smartphone on the market. The branding "OnePlus Open" makes sense, however, as foldable smartphones are primarily designed to be used while "open."
All of that aside, the OnePlus Open is expected to make its grand debut in August. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is billed to launch on July 26, and Xiaomi has recently confirmed its Mix Fold 3 for an August launch as well. Google recently launched the Pixel Fold, too, making this peak foldable season. The OnePlus Open has its work cut out for it. At the very least, though, the Open is tipped to arrive with competitive hardware, as we already covered here.
