MWC 2023 | OnePlus foldable phone coming in latter half of 2023, company confirms

Foldables are perhaps the most exciting market segment of the smartphone world, and many major players have launched their own takes on the foldable form factor. Never one to miss out on innovation, OnePlus confirmed at MWC that the company would launch its first foldable smartphone in the latter half of 2023.

True to OnePlus's motto of "Never Settle," OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu said that the foldable would "have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience." Liu continued: 

It must be a flagship phone that doesn't settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.

Liu was mum on any other details, so little else is known about the upcoming foldable. However, OnePlus stated that more details would come over the following months. If this foldable is marketed like OnePlus's other handsets, it's likely a series of info drops and "leaks" will be released over the year to generate buzz surrounding the smartphone. 

OnePlus teased a foldable device in the background of a video at the OnePlus 11 launch event, and rumors have been flying for the past half-year that OnePlus would soon be launching a foldable. It seems that those speculations have been confirmed. 

OnePlus also showed off a concept gaming phone with liquid cooling earlier this week, though it's unclear if that device will remain a concept or be released to the general public. What is certain is that OnePlus will continue to push into popular smartphone categories, particularly foldables.
