Last week, Evan Blass and The Tech Outlook shared marketing images of the Razr 2023 or Razr (2023), Motorola's next-generation foldable smartphone. As we discussed at the time, the Razr (2023) will be a departure from last year's model thanks to a larger cover display and slimmer internal display bezels. Based on the images released so far, the Razr (2023) will have a more expansive cover display than even the Find N2 Flip, which Oppo equips with a 3.26-inch panel.
Subsequently, Blass has tweeted information about the device's release. While Lenovo elected against unveiling the Razr (2023) during MWC 2023, the foldable is not that far from release. In fact, Blass' information suggests that it could arrive over two months before the anniversary of its predecessor. For reference, Motorola presented the Razr (2022) first in China, where it was available from mid-August. However, the company waited until October before selling the Razr (2022) elsewhere.
By contrast, the Razr (2023) may launch as soon as June 1. As the image below shows, June 1 will serve as the device's announcement and launch. In other words, pre-orders may well start from that date too. Presumably, Motorola will offer the Razr (2023) with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the logical upgrade from the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in the Razr (2022). It remains to be seen whether Motorola will upgrade the Razr series in other areas though, such as with a larger battery or improved cameras. Hopefully, Motorola will make the Razr (2023) more price competitive than its predecessor as well; the Razr (2022) remains priced at €1,199.99, €150 more than the cheapest Galaxy Z Flip4.
