OnePlus hinted at a OnePlus 11 Concept prototype during the company's global launch of the OnePlus 11 5G earlier this month. Recently, a new teaser for the 11 Concept was released showing off its glowing rear LED canals, but it wasn't immediately apparent whether they served any purpose, or these were just for some added bling.
At MWC 2023 today, we finally get to know that the OnePlus 11 Concept uses proper liquid cooling tech complete with actual pumps that push liquid through these glowing canals.
Active CryoFlux — that's how OnePlus calls its innovation — is being touted as a game changer in smartphone cooling. According to OnePlus, the active liquid cooling can reduce temperatures by 2.1 °C and improve frame rates by 3-4 fps.
Active CryoFlux also has a benefit outside gaming. Apparently, the system can reduce charging temperatures by 1.6 °C, which should help shave off about 30-45 seconds of charging time.
OnePlus said that the cooling system uses industrial-grade ceramic piezoelectric motors connected to pipelines between an upper and lower diaphragm. The pumps occupy an area of just 0.2 cm2, so they shouldn't contribute a lot to the phone's weight and thickness, according to the company.
The aesthetics of the OnePlus 11 Concept are designed to show off its liquid cooling prowess in full glory. The CryoFlux liquid flows through the LED-lit pipelines visible through a clear rear cover. The rear cover uses a metal and alloy magnetron-spluttering coating that is deposited using an electric field.
The liquid also flows along the camera ring forming a halo. The lens area is designed by Guilloché etching that engraves an intricate pattern similar to luxury watches.
If the cooling claims indicated above seem meagre, OnePlus is also showing off its 45 W Liquid Cooler, which is a semiconductor-based thermo electric cooler that can supposedly reduce a device's temperature by 20 °C! The Liquid Cooler can also auto switch-off if needed to avoid damage.
If you are in and around Barcelona, be sure to stop by OnePlus's MWC booth at Hall 3 3M10 where the company is also showing off its new OnePlus Pad, OnePlus Buds Pro 2, and of course the OnePlus 11 5G.
