Qualcomm has announced partnerships with some of the best-known OEMs in the Android smartphone world to bring Snapdragon Satellite connectivity to next-gen consumer-grade handsets. The new "two-way capable messaging solution" will be compatible with SoCs for multiple tiers of the smartphone market, and may be used for purposes besides emergency texts.

Xiaomi and Honor are at at MWC 2023 with their current flagships; however, Qualcomm is also at the show with an announcement that their successors may upgrade to Snapdragon Satellite connectivity. The next-gen devices may, unlike Apple's current feature-set, support recreational messaging for those in rural, remote or off-shore settings as well as an emergency measure for those who have become isolated and are in difficulty.

The service will become compatible with every 5G-capable Qualcomm mobile SoC for handsets from the entry-level to the top-tier sectors of the market over time. It may be found on upgrades to smartphones such as the OPPO Find X5 Pro and Vivo X Note as well as those of the Honor Magic5 or Xiaomi 13 series.

This list may also extend to next-gen Motorola Edge-series smartphones - and the Nothing phone (2), as Qualcomm has just confirmed. Then again, the company has indicated that Snapdragon Satellite may, like the Bullitt messaging service powered by the new competing MediaTek platform, require monthly payments to stay on.
