Edge 40 Pro rears its head before Motorola's global release
The Google Play Console has effectively confirmed Motorola's plans for releasing the Moto X40 in other markets. The Moto X40 arrived in December with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, as well as a 6.7-inch OLED display running at 165 Hz and 1080p. Additionally, the device has 50 MP primary and ultra-wide-angle cameras, a 60 MP front-facing camera and a 4,600 mAh battery that supports 125 W wired charging.
Recently, the Moto X40 surfaced on Geekbench as the Edge 40 Pro. While the name switch is to be expected, Motorola released the Edge X30 as the Edge 30 Pro in many countries and the Edge Plus (2022) in North America, the Geekbench listings were not verified. As such, they could have been faked. However, this is not the case with the Google Play Console, to which Android OEMs like Motorola submit devices for verification.
In short, there are no surprises with the transition between the Moto X40 and Edge 40 Pro. In fact, Motorola has used the same stock image for both devices, underlining their similarities. Hence, the Edge 40 Pro runs Android 13 and an SM8550 SoC, Qualcomm's codename for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Google Play Console highlights that the Edge 40 Pro will be available with 12 GB of RAM, mirroring the Moto X40. Reputedly, Motorola will offer the Edge 40 Pro with 256 GB of storage for €849, with a 512 GB of storage option remaining a Chinese exclusive.
