WhatsApp has been working on a feature in which a video chat can be put into picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, albeit as a beta only. However, it has now been made available to the stable channel of its iOS-compatible version. Meanwhile, its beta counterpart has also just added the ability to share photos in HD as well as SD.

WhatsApp has just upgraded users with its beta version for iOS to an expanded media-sharing option menu. The new version (2.23.4.70, or 23.4.0 through Apple's TestFlight program) adds the option to share photos in HD, which is, apparently, "more clear" compared to the traditional SD (1242x1230) resolution.

As the blog WABetaInfo notes, the new alternative might go up to 90% of the original image's quality. Its addition to WhatsApp's beta for iOS brings it in line with the corresponding betas for Android and PC.

Accordingly, it may be a new feature to look out for in updates to the stable, or 'normal', versions of WhatsApp for all 3 platform. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has recently converted PiP video chats from an equally beta feature to that of the stable channel on iOS (v23.3.77).

Finally, WhatsApp has warned beta 23.4.0.70 users that playing videos within chats or while on status pages might crash the app, although a fix for this issue may be on the way.
