Tipster @WABetaInfo indicated that WhatsApp could soon feature a major quality-of-life improvement: users may soon be able to pause voice notes while recording them, instead of having to delete and start from scratch every time there’s a disturbance.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp could soon introduce a pause feature for recording voice notes. This would be a major quality-of-life improvement to the voice note recording process. Currently, WhatsApp users only have two options when it comes to voice notes: delete a partially completed note or send it.

In practice, this means that users often re-record voice notes due to sound disturbances, since they aren’t able to pause, wasting a significant amount of time. If the purported voice note pause feature makes it into WhatsApp, users could simply pause a voice note during a disturbance and restart recording at a more convenient time or place.

WABetaInfo provided a video of what appears to be the feature at work on an iOS WhatsApp test build. In the video, the user appears to record a voice note for five seconds, hit the new stop/pause button at the bottom-center of the screen, then restart the recording.
