The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has been tipped to debut much later in the year, around October. The next-gen flagship chipset also looks set to edge Apple's A16 Bionic in the CPU department, and a new leak has now revealed more details of the SoC.

It looks unlikely that Qualcomm will release a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 as a mid-cycle refresh to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Instead, it appears the company is already working on the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with a new leak now throwing more light on the flagship chipset.

As revealed by leaker RGcloudS, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will maintain its predecessor's  1 + 4 + 3 core configuration, contrary to earlier rumors claiming a switch to a 1 + 5 + 2 setup. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 looks poised to be built on TSMC's N4P 4 nm node. As we reported earlier, Apple's A17 Bionic will be the only flagship chipset this year to be made manufactured on a 3 nm process, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 expected to catch up next year.

Supposedly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will feature a Cortex X4 prime core. This prime core could get boosted up to a clock speed of 3.72 GHz in Samsung's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. It's said to be joined by Cortex-A715 and new Cortex-A515 cores. The potential clock speeds of those cores are currently unknown, however. In any case, these are early days yet and you'd do well to take all of this with a pinch of salt.
