The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supposedly scored 1,930 and 6,236 in Geekbench's single and multi-core tests. The SoC will allegedly feature a 1+5+2 core configuration and be 20% more power-efficient compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has dramatically improved upon its predecessor's shortcomings, it still cannot hold a candle to Apple's offerings. The next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was rumoured to remedy that with its next-gen Arm Cortex-X4 core. An alleged Geekbench score of the SoC suggests it performs remarkably better than initially anticipated (1,800/6,500), surpassing even Apple's shiny new A16 Bionic.

A rumour on Meeco shows the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 netting a single-core score of 1,930 and a multi-core score of 6,236. According to our benchmark database, the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2's performance averages 1,491 for single-core and 5,164 for multi-core. That represents an eye-popping 29% increase in single-core performance and 20% in multi-core.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also rumoured to feature a unique 1+5+2 core configuration, cutting yet another efficiency core from its predecessor's 1+4+3 setting. Despite that, it is reportedly 20% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, presumably because it is allegedly manufactured on TSMC's N4P process node.

As always, one should treat the above information with heavy scepticism. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is definitely an engineering sample, and the engineers could be playing around with power limits to determine how far one can push the chip. While it would be nice if the final product's performance were identical, it may have to be nerfed to keep thermals in check.
