Initial benchmarks of AMD's current-gen laptop processors are a mixed bag. Unfortunately, one won't be able to purchase them anytime soon, with the first models slated to go on sale sometime in Q2. Even the last-gen Ryzen 6000 models are few and far between. Thankfully, Asus has an exciting deal on some Ryzen-based gaming laptops.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 has dropped to US$1699 on Amazon, which is the lowest it has gone for on the platform, according to CamelCamelCamel. It packs a powerful AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (130 Watts TGP) graphics card, a 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) 300 Hz LCD panel, 16 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD (both expandable). The high refresh rate and beefy hardware make it ideal for fast-paced esports titles such as CS: GO and Valorant.
Our in-depth ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 review tested the 165 Hz QHD variant with the same internals. It lauded the laptop for its revamped design that kept its power-hungry internals cool, although one will need to manually switch power plans when not gaming to keep the fans in check. While there is an all-AMD variant of the laptop as well, one is better off with Nvidia for now, given the state of AMD's drivers.
