New Gigabyte AORUS Gaming Box to offer liquid-cooled NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
Gigabyte has introduced its latest AORUS Gaming Box, an eGPU enclosure with plenty of I/O. As the images below show, the new AORUS Gaming Box features four video outputs, with triple DisplayPort connections and a sole HDMI connection. Additionally, Gigabyte includes a Gigabit Ethernet connection and two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, as well as a Thunderbolt port for connecting a laptop.
At the time of writing, it is unclear whether the eGPU enclosure has a Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 port. However, VideoCardz notes that Thunderbolt 4's limitations would prevent the Gaming Box from utilising more than 40 Gbps bandwidth. As such, this new model is unlikely to offer any more performance than an older eGPU enclosure. Incidentally, this generation's Gaming Box has lost an HDMI port and a front-mounted USB Type-A connection, with Gigabyte replacing the latter with a USB Type-C port instead.
The new AORUS Gaming Box will ship with a custom GeForce RTX 4090. Supposedly, Gigabyte has included a liquid cooling loop to help keep the GeForce RTX 4090 in check. It remains to be seen whether the custom liquid cooling loop will affect future upgradeability, though. A release date remains unknown for the time being, as does launch pricing. The RTX 3080 equivalent retailed for over US$2,000, so we imagine that the RTX 4090 version will be nearer US$2,500.
