Computex 2023 | Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 unveiled with 360 mm AIO cooler and on-die liquid metal
Considered an iconic line of Asus video cards for extreme gamers, the ROG Matrix family is now back with the brand's interpretation of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090. The last ROG Matrix video card released until now was based on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, so the RTX 3000 lineup did not receive the ROG Matrix treatment. Earlier today, Asus unveiled the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 with quite a few firsts and the only problems are the lack of any pricing information and the fact that shipments are only expected to start in the third quarter.
Unveiled in Taipei, this extreme video card features "the highest boost clocks of any RTX 4090 on the planet" and a cooling system to match its TDP that can exceed 450 W. For the first time in a ROG video card, Asus used a liquid metal thermal compound. Alongside it, Asus used a custom 360 mm radiator coupled to 3 X ROG MF-12S ARGB fans. Installation and cable management are done using a magnetic connector that links the fans and handles power and control signals transfer.
For the first time ever, Asus uses indirect Aura Lighting in the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090. The card uses a chamber made of aluminum that protects the main cold plate, pump, and PCB.
Software-wise, the GPU Tweak III companion app will handle adjusting the extreme clocks and monitoring the multiple temperature sensors used in this card (GPU, memory, VRMs, chokes, and power input circuits). Obviously, the Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 sports a Dual BIOS switch with Quiet and Performance Modes.
Since the price of the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti was around US$1,900, the new card will surely exceed the US$2,000 threshold. However, more details about the clock speeds and pricing are not available for the time being, so stay tuned for the additional information that will surely surface in the coming weeks.
