The Xiaomi Digital Car Key feature was revealed at MWC 2023. The tool, developed in partnership with Google and BMW, will allow you to control various BMW cars from a Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 12 Pro or Xiaomi 12 smartphone. Features include locking, unlocking and starting your vehicle and the ability to share your key with friends.

Xiaomi announced at MWC 2023 a new Digital Car Key feature, which will be available on the new Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones. The tool has been developed in partnership with Google and BMW; Xiaomi stated that collaborations such as these help to provide features to help make its customers' lives easier.

The Xiaomi Digital Car Key lets you use your Xiaomi 13 to lock, unlock or start your car. You can also store, manage and share your digital key with friends and family within Google Wallet or other platforms. As with competitor versions, such as the Apple car key, the device uses NFC technology. According to one source, the Xiaomi car key uses encryption technology to provide another layer of safety. Plus, you can remotely deactivate a car key if you lose your phone or it gets stolen.

Xiaomi confirmed that its digital car key would roll out to eligible devices, including the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 models, in Q2 of this year via an OTA update as necessary. The company notes that only cars produced after July 2020 will support the tool; however, it is unclear precisely which BMW models the feature will be compatible with. A similar mechanism for NIO electric cars was unveiled earlier this month. Smartphones, including the OPPO Find N2, OnePlus Ace and Vivo X series, bring keyless entry to various Nio models on the NT 2.0 platform. These include the EC7 SUV and ET7 electric cars.
