Xiaomi's first-gen electric car is now said to have reached a pre-manufacturing stage at which about 50 of its prototypes are being produced per week, according to the latest industry insider tips. Its next move toward mass-market availability are projected to include MIIT certification, which might be completed by the end of 2023.
These reports have emerged alongside images circulating on Chinese social media of what is said to be a body for the alleged new Modena/MS11 prototypes. The external shell's camuflage skin does nothing to hide its fairly standard, Tesla Model 3-like sedan form-factor.
Then again, the shell contains many of the amenities one might expect from an up-to-date EV, frameless doors with pop-out handles and a rear-mounted charging port included. The main indicator that it is a "Xiaomi car" come from the logo set into the in-door speaker, which suggests the OEM is going for a first-party audio set-up rather than co-brand it with a partner such as Harman.
Finally, further photos that show the interior of the trunk hint at fairly standard rear storage in the first-gen Xiaomi Car. All in all, the OEM's inaugural vehicle seems well on track for its projected 2024 launch.
