The first photos of the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 appear to have been leaked. GoAndroid claims to have found the images alongside certification from the NRRA (National Radio Research Agency) in Korea. The filing listed the “Smart Band” with model number M2239B1, indicating that the device will have a DC 3.87 V polymer lithium-ion battery and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.
The images indicate one significant change in the design compared to previous models: the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 will have a two-piece detachable watch strap, similar to an Apple Watch. Like with older generations, the wearable has a long, narrow oval watch face, with health monitoring sensors and a charging port on the back. As we reported earlier this year, Xiaomi has already certified a smartwatch with the same model number at the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in Singapore, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM).
These applications suggest that Xiaomi plans to launch the wearable outside of China. However, the gadget has yet to be filed with agencies outside South East Asia and the Middle East. The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is expected to launch in the next few months. Further details about the wearable, such as its features and price, are yet to be announced by the brand. As a rough guide, the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 launched last spring currently retails for US$46.30.
