Rumor | OnePlus Ace 2 "budget version" without Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 or 100W charging incoming
The Ace 2 is technically part of OnePlus' 2023 flagship smartphone line-up, sharing a build and some top features such as new 100W SuperVOOC charging with the new top-end 11. Now, it seems that the series is due another expansion, for the Chinese market at least.
According to the prolific leaker Digital Chat Station, OnePlus is on the brink of releasing the Ace 2 all over again, albeit with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC in place of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. That is not why this refresh is tipped to launch cheaper than the original, however.
This new 'second-gen Ace Racing Edition' is also thought to drop the 2's new IMX890 main rear camera for an older 64MP sensor. It may also be the PHP110 spotted in a pre-release leak with last-gen 80W charging.
All of these new leaks may neatly dovetail with OnePlus exec Li Jie's new Ace 2-themed Weibo post, hinting that the brand may want to build on the success it has found with the new 2,700 yuan (~US$388) smartphone with a new variant rendered even more affordable with downgraded specs.
Meanwhile, the Ace 2's India-exclusive version, the 11R, has shown no sign of getting a similar refresh - although the Nord series might have more luck.
