The Phantom V Fold has finally been made official as a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold-series rival from the OEM Tecno. The company has confirmed that it will be released with dual 120Hz screens developed in partnership with TCL CSOT. The new foldable is also slated to ship with a potentially high-end main rear camera.

The Phantom V Fold has now made its debut as Tecno's inaugural foldable smartphone at MWC 2023. The OEM has now confirmed that it is a flagship device along the lines of others such as the OPPO Find N2 or Vivo X Fold, and is set to compete with those advanced handsets with a similar dual-display layout.

They will be driven by the Dimensity 9000+ processor, as announced earlier, and integrate 120Hz LTPO technology for its 6.42-inch 1080p and main-event 7.85-inch 2K OLED displays, designed in-house in partnership with TCL CSOT. Tecno asserts that this joint project delivers an "ultra-flat, virtually crease-free" experience on the Phantom V Fold when open.

The first-gen flagship is also now touted to boast triple "custom" 50+50+13MP rear shooters boasting an  "ultra-clear" 5-piece lens and 2x zoom. With single punch-holes in both its cover and main displays of 32MP and 16MP in resolution respectively, that brings the V Fold's camera count up to 5 in total.

Accordingly, the Phantom V Fold is now gearing up to contend for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4's market dominance on its release. Therefore, that makes the same event a slightly odd choice of juncture at which to also start teasing its 2024 successor.

TCL CSOT has also collaborated with Tecno on this 'Phantom V Fold2', resulting in next-gen "Pattern 2.0 crease optimization" and "PLP" technologies to help make sure the panel stays even smoother and clearer over time. Its screen is also backed to launch up to 20% thinner, thanks to an advanced layering production process.

Finally, Tecno has also unveiled plans to supplant both upcoming devices with a motor-mounted "large-screen" rollable device with "no screen crease at all". In the meantime, the Phantom V Fold will start at 89,999 INR (US$1,089) for its 12GB RAM /256GB storage base model on its retail debut in India in the second quarter of 2023.
