Tecno has now confirmed a switch to a pointedly distinctive rear camera housing in its latest Camon-series smartphones. It houses a combination of 64MP and 2MP shooters in the new 20, 20 Pro and 20 Pro 5G variants, only upgrading to a 50MP+108MP+2MP set-up in the flagship 20 Premier. The 5G-capable members of this new family are also the first Android devices to launch with the "new" MediaTek Dimensity 8050 processor.

Tecno has now officially pioneered the Premier suffix for new top-end mobile devices, although the 20-series flagship shares its new "Masterful Aesthetic" (and geometric) design with the rest of its new mid-range line. It is executed in either "lychee pattern" vegan leather or light-bending glass, depending on the variant and colorway.

The Camon 20 series features 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED displays with punch-holes for 32MP "AI Shining Selfie" cameras, although the vanilla 20 misses out on the 120Hz refresh rate of the rest of its siblings. It does, at least, get to share in 5,000mAh/33W (or 45W in the Premier) power specs, HIOS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box and 8GB RAM/256GB base models.

That last spec is true for the entire 20 series, with the exception of the Premier at 512GB of storage - then again, it is the only one without a 3.5mm jack. It is also the only variant with a generous-sounding 108MP ultra-wide/macro camera backed up by a 50MP OIS-enabled "RGBW Pro" shooter and a 2MP "Bokeh" lens set inside its "Octa Ring" flash.

The rest of the 20 series makes do with a 64MP main camera, which only has OIS in the Pro 5G. It also has the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 of the Premier model, compared to the Helio G85 and G99 of the 20 and 20 Pro respectively. The 8050, while marketed here as a new solution for "Masterful Fluency", also has pretty much the same specs as the 1300, with support for 200MP main cameras.

Tecno has yet to outline full pricing and availability for the Camon 20 series as yet - it seems the new line is destined for markets such as Africa and South-east Asia thus far. The OEM has, however, indicated that its release will start with the 20 Pro 5G in Nigeria, at about 140,000 naira (~US$300).
