Cosina launches classic-inspired Voigtlander NOKTON 55 mm f/1.2 SLIIs lens for Nikon F-mount with sales commencing on May 16
After announcing the Voigtlander NOKTON 55 mm f/1.2 SLIIs lens for Nikon F-mount back in February, Cosina Japan recently shared more information about the new lens and has made pre-orders available through a number of outlets, according to Nikon Rumors. The new NOKTON 55 mm SLIIs lens is a manual-focus lens with a fast aperture and metal body and design reminiscent of the vintage lenses of the 1970s and 1980s.
Cosina bills the lens as a high-quality option for single-lens reflex cameras with the Nikon F mount and an Ai (auto-indexing) or Ai-S coupler, making it compatible with a wide range of cameras, from 1980s-era film bodies, to more modern Nikon DSLRs. The 55 mm lens has an aperture range of f/16 to f/1.2, putting it ahead of vintage lenses of the 1980s in terms of maximum aperture, especially considering the compact form factor.
Despite the array of contacts on the mount, the NOKTON 55 mm SLIIs doesn't have any electronically-enabled stabilisation, autofocus, or other shooting aids. Only camera bodies with an Ai and Ai-S coupler will be capable of controlling aperture via the body.
The lens features seven elements in six groups, which Cosina claims provides clear image quality, and an aperture diaphragm with 9 blades that should deliver smooth bokeh circles. In the US, the new Voigtlander NOKTON 55mm f/1.2 SLIIs lens for Nikon F-mount is available for pre-order at B&H Photo for US$799. European buyers can look to Calumet Photo, Foto Erhardt, and Foto Koch for pre-orders at around €579 to €649. Full-tilt sale of the lens will start on May 16, 2023.
