ArtraLab releases fast NONIKKOR-MC 35 mm full-frame lens in two retro flavours ↺
ArtraLab's latest lens launch comes by way of the NONIKKOR-MC 35 mm f/1.4, available for Nikon Z mount, Sony E mount, and L mount for Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma cameras. The 35 mm lens will be available in either the 1960's guise — seemingly inspired by 1960's Nikkor designs, like the Nikkor-S Auto 35mm f/2.8 — or the 1980's version — fashioned after later Nikkor models, as reported by Nikon Rumors.
Given the manual-focus nature of the lenses — not to mention the US$280 price point — the NONIKKOR-MC lenses miss out on features like image stabilisation and camera-controlled aperture settings. The lenses do, however, have some nice touches, including hand-painted coloured aperture and focus indicators, as well as manual aperture and focus rings with period-accurate rectangular, diamond, and striped knurling on the metal focus and aperture rings.
The NONIKKOR 35 mm lenses are designed to please photographers looking for a tactile photography experience and a fairly versatile lens that's built for abuse. Despite the Nikon Z fc's APS-C sensor and 1.5x crop factor — turning 35 mm into ~53 mm — these NONIKKOR-MC lenses complement a camera like the Z fc and its settings dials well. Both the camera and lenses are fairly lightweight, compact, and have that unique retro styling.
The ArtraLab NONIKKOR-MC 35 mm f/1.4 1960's and 1980's lenses are currently up for pre-sale on ArtraLab's site, with orders expected to ship sometime in May.
