Update | Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition launches as India's first color-changing smartphone

Update: Tecno has now revealed that its innovative new Edition of the Camon 19 Pro owes its new feature to "polychromatic polyisomer" technology, and that it starts at just INR 17,999 (~US$226).

However, this is because it is also a 4G/LTE variant of its line, with a MediaTek Helio G96 processor in place of the 19 Pro 5G's Dimensity SoC.

For those unbothered by a need for cutting-edge mobile data specs, the Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition will be available to pre-order from September 22, 2022.

Original Article: Tecno's latest smartphone release is pitched at those who enjoy some of the more interesting trends with their tech. Not only is the new Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition finished in the strategic grid required for its name, it will become the world's latest color-changing mobile device on its launch.

The OEM has already revealed that some of the blocks into which the 19 Pro Mondrian's rear panel is divided are rated to turn from white to appealing blue or purple shades on exposure to light - sunlight included, apparently. 

Tecno has yet to reveal the materials or techniques with which this effect is to be achieved, although it might well be something along the lines of the photochromic technology OPPO/OnePlus hoped to make a thing a few years ago.

In any case, "India's first multi-color changing smartphone" is also set to launch with the same triple rear cameras (incorporating impressive-sounding 50MP "50mm portrait" and OIS-enabled 64MP "RGB+G+P" lenses ), a 120Hz 6.8-inch FHD+ display and 33W charging for a 5,000mAh battery as a standard 19 Pro.

Accordingly, the upcoming artist-inspired version is also likely to launch with a MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor for that LCD panel and, as Tecno is teasing a "13GB Memory Fusion" spec, probably 8GB of RAM as standard.

Therefore, it will be very interesting to see if the new Special Edition gets a premium over the Pro's current INR 21,999 (~US$276) price-point on its release as an Amazon.in Special "soon".
