ORICO is a USB hub and storage accessory OEM that has just launched a new line of portable SSDs. Its MTQ-40G flagships have Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports with an up to 40 gigabit per second (Gbps) data-transmission rate, and are up to 2TB in capacity. However, they also stand out due to "durable" multi-colored exteriors styled after one of Piet Mondrian's most famous paintings.

ORICO is one of many companies that sells its range of USB type-C and -A charging, syncing and storage accessories on Amazon, although some have a more distinctive design than average. This may be why the OEM has decided to make its new line of portable SSDs stand out in a sea of often metal-colored rivals with its multi-colored Montage colorway.

It is made of multiple starkly-bordered vibrant blocks, in a homage to Mondrian's 1930 Composition in Red, Yellow and Blue. The finish is applied to a "durable", compact (115 x 63 x 21mm) zinc alloy/ABS chassis with a flat metallic frame featuring a type-C port.

They go up to the latest USB4 standard in the series' top-end MTQ-40G variants and, thus, are technically rated for speeds of up to 40Gbps.

Then again, ORICO claims to have elicited read-speeds of up to 3,126 megabytes per second (MB/s) and write-speeds of up to 2,832MB/s, at most out of its new Montage SSDs in its testing.

That may support the transfer of a 3GB file in about 1 second, although obviously real-world performance would depend on conditions specific to the individual user.

ORICO has launched the new higher-end Montage SSDs in SKUs of 512GB to 2TB in capacity. However, it has yet to disclose pricing or availability for the new, artsy portable drives.

Then again, the OEM has revealed that they will ship with a complimentary 30cm cable that, while type-C at both ends, is also equipped with a "multi-purpose" type-A adapter connected to one of them.
