Lenovo Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition 8-inch Android tablet with color-changing glass back launched in China for 3,299 yuan
The Lenovo Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition has now been launched in China, with fans being able to snap up the compact gaming tablet in one of two colors: “ice white” and “glare blue”. The Legion Y700 tablet was originally released in a striking chrome shell and made itself attractive to gamers by sporting a Snapdragon 870 and a 120 Hz-capable LCD panel for a reasonable price tag starting from 2,199 yuan (~US$326; early bird price discounted from 2,699 yuan (US$400)) for the 8 GB + 128 GB model. However, while the tablet has been available in China since February, it still hasn’t been officially launched globally.
While the wait continues for fans of powerful and compact Android tablets in other markets (although it is possible to buy the China model of the Legion Y700 via reseller), tablet lovers in China can check out the Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition. For the higher starting price of 3,299 yuan (US$489; early bird price discounted from 3,699 yuan (US$548), buyers get a 12 GB + 256 GB version of the Lenovo Legion Y700 that comes with an inductive glass panel on its rear. This glass cover changes color during tablet operation, which is an interesting gimmick that should appeal to the type of user who likes nothing more than being blasted by RGB lighting during a gaming session.
Unfortunately, the rest of the specs of the Lenovo Legion Y700 Ultimate Edition tablet remain identical to the standard edition, so it’s not really a “Pro” model and hasn’t been labeled as such by Lenovo. For instance, it features the same SD 870 SoC as the regular Legion Y700. But at least consumers in China now have a choice between three different versions of the Legion Y700 while there are still plenty of tablet users outside of that market clamoring for an 8-inch Android tablet with the kind of power and performance that Lenovo’s device can muster.
