Xiaomi Redmi Note 12S emerges as new budget smartphone series
According to leaker Kacper Skrzypek, Xiaomi is working on another interim update for a popular smartphone series. Last year, the company released the Redmi Note 11S series, as well as the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12T series. There is no concrete evidence of the Redmi Note 12S so far series, with Skrzypek claiming to have heard about the series through one of Xiaomi's European distributors.
In other words, the Redmi Note 12S series should receive a global release, rather than being a Chinese or Indian exclusive. Reputedly, Xiaomi will start selling the Redmi Note 12S in mid-May, although that does not preclude the company from announcing the series a few weeks earlier, like the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. Skrzypek adds that there are two Redmi Note 12 series smartphones, codenamed 'ocean' and 'sea'; these codenames have not appeared elsewhere yet.
Currently, little is known about 'sea' or 'ocean'. However, Skrzypek asserts that the pair may rely on MediaTek chipsets, the specific SoC of which remains unknown at this stage. Moreover, one model will contain NFC connectivity, while the other will not. Hence, it seems that the Redmi Note 12S series will be relatively affordable devices. For reference, Xiaomi sold the Redmi Note 11S for roughly €200 in the Eurozone.
