Mix Fold 3: Xiaomi confirms August launch for "thinner and stronger" foldable as details leak online
Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2 was well received when it debuted last year, as the second-gen foldable was widely touted as a proper alternative to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4. The company looks set to build on that success with a direct successor, the Mix Fold 3, with Xiaomi President Lu Weibing now confirming its imminent launch.
Taking to Weibo a few hours ago, the Xiaomi executive revealed the company's plans to debut the Mix Fold 3 shortly. The post outs the launch of the "Xiaomi Smart Manufacturing Digital Intelligence System 2.0" for its Beijing Yizhuang Xiaomi Smart Factory. Supposedly, the new manufacturing system offers "micron-level precision," promising thinner and stronger Xiaomi foldables, with the Mix Fold 3 to be the first mass-produced model.
The Mix Fold 3 will debut sometime in August. Like the Mix Fold 2, however, it appears its launch will remain exclusive to Xiaomi's home market of China, with leaker Ice Universe claiming the Mix Fold 3 will not be sold globally. While hardware specifics of the foldable remain mostly elusive, word on the grapevine indicates it will arrive with a bigger battery than its predecessor, getting the boost from a 4500 mAh unit to a 4800 mAh one—impressive, since it's also meant to be slimmer. In addition, it's said to add an extra camera, expected to be a periscope zoom lens, along with wireless charging capabilities.
