Mix Fold 2 becomes the most expensive Xiaomi smartphone to repair
The Mix Fold 2 launched as Xiaomi's new and upgraded foldable smartphone, with a slimmer design to contain its main 8.02-inch 2K display (were it not for its epic camera hump, that is). However, its ultra-premium design has led to some pretty astronomical out-of-warranty repair costs.
Xiaomi has now released its schedule of service costs for the Mix Fold 2, and they make for pricey reading. The cost of replacing the main LTPO 2.0 Eco2 AMOLED screen of a 12GB RAM/256GB internal storage SKU goes up to 4,899 yuan (~US$713), or more than half of the smartphone's 8,999 yuan (~US$1,310) starting price.
Then again, a new motherboard for the same device could cost just 2,800 yuan (~US$408), whereas that of its predecessor cost 5,100 yuan (~$742, plus a 40 yuan (~$6) servicing charge) to replace. Nevertheless, it is a slight shame that it might be just as well to buy a new Mix Fold 2 than to repair a broken one in some cases.
