IFA 2022 | ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED: Pricing and availability announced for 17.3-inch foldable OLED laptop
ASUS has finally unveiled the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, a competitor to the upcoming ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 2. To recap, ASUS introduced the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED in January during CES 2022. While the company had hoped to start shipping the laptop a few months ago, it has now confirmed that this will not be the case. Now, IFA 2022 has rolled round, and the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is in attendance.
According to ASUS, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will not be ready for release until sometime in Q4 2022. Theoretically, this could mean that the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is just over a month away from reaching people. However, the vagueness of 'Q4 2022' means that we could be left until near Christmas before ASUS starts shipping its first foldable laptop. Presumably, ASUS would have revealed a fixed launch date if it had set one, instead of a moveable release window.
Also, ASUS has confirmed that the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will retail for €3,699 in the Eurozone, which is even more expensive than the original ThinkPad X1 Fold. For that money, ASUS includes an Intel Core i7-1250U processor, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 1 TB PCIe Gen3 SSD set within a 378.5 x 287.6 x 8.7~12,9 mm chassis that weighs 1.5 kg. As its name suggests, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a 17.3-inch display. ASUS states that the OLED panel operates at 2,560 x 1,920 pixels in a 4:3 aspect ratio with 0.2 ms response times, 100% DCI-P3 colour space coverage and 350 nits of typical peak brightness.
Moreover, the laptop features a 75 Wh battery that it can recharge at up to 65 W via USB Type-C. Meanwhile, ASUS includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, as well as built-in microphone and speaker arrays. Like the ThinkPad X1 Fold, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED ships with a detachable keyboard cover that contains a trackpad and its own I/O. We imagine that ASUS will reveal more details as the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED's release draws closer.
